Fresh Podcasts > One podcast tops the rest

http://foiblesfollies.blogspot.com [Fixing Foibles and Follies] In that type of environment, quiet and/or muffled voices in podcasts are totally indecipherable. I noticed earlier this year that many of the Wired podcasts suffer from this problem, so I stopped listening to them.

Disquiet.comhttp://www.disquiet.com [Disquiet.com] Disquiet: downstream: recommended free web listening: The label has posted some holiday treats in the form of freely downloadable MP3s: Cepia (aka Minneapolis-based Huntley Miller) turns Charlie Brown's favorite holiday song into a mix of dissolving piano notes and dubby drum beats (MP3), while Outputmessage (Richmond, Virginia-based Bernard Farley) takes "Carol of the Bells" a little further afield, punctuating its melody and getting into some welcome production drift (MP3). Neither seems to appreciate how more fully these melodies can be disassembled, how far they can be stretched, given how familiar the songs are, but still, these are both cool tracks to toss into holiday rotation.

http://podcastreviews.net [Podcastreviews.net] The New, New Podcast Review: 4 stars Archives: The audio quality is top-notch, and The Warlock has attempted a few different encodings and seems to have settled on a good quality 96kbps (instead of the 128 he was leaning towards) which resulted in a 75% reduction in file size (well, duh), bringing a 1:15 'cast down to a chunky but handleable 51Mb, which given the new encoder he's using actually sounded much better than the previous 96kbps podcast. I wish they would announce the track lengths as well, as is my typical rant.
