[Film Junk] Sundance: Moon Review - Film Junk: If the Sundance Film Festival can be seen as a reliable indicator of the upcoming trends in film over the next few years, it would seem that big budget science-fiction flicks are giving way to something much more personal and lightweight. Both filmmakers and audiences are eager to explore smaller scale stories with an emphasis on intelligent themes rather than explosions and special effects.

[Quick Hitts] Smoking Bans Cause Heart Attacks | Quick Hitts: This is, of course, ridiculous.  All we’re seeing is the kind of normal variation that happens from year to year with any common ailment.  But why should we be held to a higher standard than the nicotine nannies with letters after their names, the anti-smoker organizations who quote their numbers, and the peer-reviewed journals are willing to publish nonsense as long as it’s politically correct nonsense?

[tor.com] Gibgoblins & Ice-Boxes: Behind the Scenes of the Production of ...: The idea of releasing a book in audio form was planted in my head a few years ago by a friend named Matt Wallace, author of The Failed Cities Monologues””among other works””and fearless defender of podcasters everywhere. I saw merit in his positions as to the worth and potential of it, even as I argued the points, not only because arguing is what stubborn bastards do but because I knew with my theatrical background that it was shockingly feasible to do and he was opening a door to a place that was outside my strict, all-about-the-published-page box of thinking about novels.

I have been a Republican all my life except for the short time of Operation Chaos, but right now I am switching my affiliation to Independent until they grow a pair and return to conservative principles.

[EXTRALIFE - By Scott Johnson] EXTRALIFE - By Scott Johnson » Blog Archive » Jack Thompson ...: As I recall, it wasn’t “make the funniest Jack Thompson meme evar!”, it was to put Jack in a videogame, since he’s so paranoid about being in the new GTA. I also don’t think my photoshop job was that bad, I edited it to match the colour and composition of the original screenshot, and added zombie-ish bags under his eyes and hollowed out his cheeks.

[Crooks & Liars Video Podcast] David Shuster smacks down Palin docu-director John Ziegler: Palin ...: Having watched the whole (hole) clip, Palin mentioned she reads the NYT and USA as well as the local papers, not that she comprehends any of it and most likely just looks at the pictures, but she did say she read them and Shuster walked into a trap on that issue. I think Ziegler also scored in exposing Shuster's subjective bias.
