One podcast tops the rest

[Fixing Foibles and Follies] In that type of environment, quiet and/or muffled voices in podcasts are totally indecipherable. I noticed earlier this year that many of the Wired podcasts suffer from this problem, so I stopped listening to them.

Amanda’s So Yesterday, Ze Frank is So Now

[Canadian Blogs] Now that Amanda Congdon has left the video-blogging world (at least temporarily), the medium's new star is Ze Frank, whose in-your-face (literally), smart, rapid-fire commentary has become a must-see for many people (Rob Hyndman calls Ze Frank is one of his first stops on the blogosphere). Ze Frank's star should burn hotter now that Blogspotting has put him on its radar.

[nonsmokingarea.com] as reported, Dave Winer has startet a free and independent podcast-directory at podcasting.opml.org. everybody is welcome to contribute branches to the directory by collecting podcast-feeds in opml-files (the outline processor markup language allows to describe feed-lists in a standardized way - Dave Winer’s OPML-Editor is a great Windows/Mac-tool to write opml).

Microsoft ready to Duke it out with Apple's iPod

It will be joining the ranks of Sony and others that also introduced a music service with its own software and player, but failed to make a dent in Apple's share of online music sales or sales of the iPod.

New, New Podcast Directory?

[ Northwest Noise Journal] crazy vote pleading, wacky ads, changing the title of the podcast (=, -, 1, etc.) so they come first in directory sorting and the 1% who rule the vote-receiving-roost, all see those as means of expressing themselves. I don’t see a neutral podcast directory surviving these varies assault of expression unless there is an all-powerful of some sort (rules, , etc) - I’m only saying this because it seems Linden Labs rules as the all-powerful, keeping tabs on the bubbling anarchy.

Vintage Apple: PlainTalk microphone

[MacUser: Mac and Apple news, information, and opinion.] I wanted to plug in a good external mic, but as my trip through Boot Camp taught me, the MacBook's audio input is a line-in port, not a microphone port, so it requires a powered microphone. There's an external microphone on my PowerMac G3, which I unplugged and tried only to realize that it didn't fit all the way in, because the plug on it was longer than your standard 1/8th inch connector.

[New Media Sense] BuzzMachine pointed out the new Neilsen Study relating to podcasts. BuzzMachine included some highlights, such as 9.2 million users have downloaded a podcast recently, along with 5.6 million downloading a video podcast.

RE Conference

[Thunder] The blog can be found here - it isn’t complete as I am waiting for the information that the ethics group completed so I can upload it. Photos taken during the morning, mainly of the food group for some bizarre reason can be viewed on their flickr page, unfortunatley we ran out of space on the free account so I will need to upload the outstanding photos in August (I hope I remember). The websites that formed the basis of the ethics research can be found on their del.icio.us page tagged by ethics.

Ill-advised RSS duplicate post solution in IE7 and Outlook 2007

[Things That ”¦ Make You Go Hmm] This is a good example of RSS aggregator developers attempting to fix a legitimate issue by doing readers an unintentional disservice. They are trying to keep duplicate posts from appearing in the aggregator which is a good thing, dupes most definitely suck, but their solution forgets about the many types of posts with updates.

[Podcasting News] Software MacKiev, a developer of consumer and education software, is demonstrating a new podcast-friendly version of its Mac OS X edition of Broderbund Kid Pix Deluxe 3X this week at the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) in San Diego.
